Old "friends" new place
Not going to lie, I felt alone after my family left. So far none of my roommates were here and I was left alone in my dorm room.
After setting up everything, I decided to just take a nap. There's no reason to explore the school and later I could get something to eat from Gaines Restaurant. Even though I don't remember much about Mr.Gaines, I have pictures with him when I was little before Dj. He's always been like an uncle to me and it broke my parent's heart when he passed away. So, for my first night in Hillman what better place to eat then the restaurant renamed after him.
7:27 pm, I can't believe I slept for so long. It was just 1 pm and now it's almost 8 pm, Gaines Restaurant closes at 9 pm, I remind myself.
I made it to Gaines Restaurant at 15minutes top and ordered my food. While sitting down and waiting for my burger, I heard a voice I thought I left home. A high shrieking type of voice, that grated on my nerves back home.
"Oh my god, Mariana!"
I turned around and came face to face with the ball of energy known as Olivia.
"Is this your friend?" a very good looking guy next to her asked.
"Yes, we went to the same high school and had classes together. I told you about her, this is Mariana" she said as if we were old friends. Calling me her friend was far from the truth, Olivia Dutton is super rich and super spoiled. Back in high school, we bumped heads all the time because of how entitled she was, I don't know what she's smoking but I would never call her my friend.
"Hey, Olivia," I said acknowledging her.
"Hey," I said waving at her friend.
"Oh my goodness, where are my manners. Let me introduce you guys, Mariana this is Alexander and Alexander this is Mariana" she said introducing us.
"Nice to meet you, I'm Alexander but you can call me Alex," he said and gave me a warm smile.
"Order 112, your food is ready" a cashier yelled out.
"That's me, nice to meet you and it was good to see you, Olivia," I said walking off to get my food. Hopefully, that was the end of that conversation, I don't know why she was acting all friendly but I did not want to find out.
I grabbed my food and turned around to find a smiling Olivia sitting at the table, waving at me. Why didn't I get my food to go? I thought and walked to her table.
"Are you waiting for food also?" I asked her.
"Silly you, of course not. You know I don't eat fast food, it goes straight to the hips" she chuckled.
"is that so", I muttered before taking a bite out my burger.
"But I'm not judging you though Mari, I'm just so happy to see a familiar face here," she said.
I smiled awkwardly and kept eating.
"So, umm how was your summer? Any adventures? or summer romance?" she asked.
I shooked my head no and popped a fry in my mouth.
She stared at my fries before continuing, "well I went to South Africa, it was so amazing".
"Let me guess, you shopped till you drop," I said.
She smiled, one that surprisingly didn't reach her eyes and said: "of course".
It got quiet, I didn't have much to say to her.
"Umm, what happened to Alex? Are you waiting for him?" I asked her.
"Alexander, he left a while ago".
"Ok, did he go to our school?" I decided to ask, might as well talk to her if she was going to sit here.
"Oh no, he's a family friend. He's a sophomore, so this is his second year. Are you interested in him? I can totally hook you up".
"No, thank you," I said.
"Oh, that's too bad, well sadly I have to go now," she said.
I wasn't going to stop her and I was actually looking forward to it.
"Oh, but before I go. Let's exchange numbers, I can't believe I lost your number," she said cheerfully.
I had to look around first to make sure I'm not on some prank show, this girl is really on something else. But for some reason, I gave her my real number and watched her walk out with a smile on her face. Olivia Dutton at Hillman, one of the first and probably few faces from high school I'll probably run into.
