"Oh my goodness, I can not believe today is our baby's first day at Hillman," my mother said.
"I know, I know it feels just like yesterday I was chasing you down these halls, trying to get you attention," he said with fondness before leaning over to give her a kiss.
"Ewww," came from my little brother while I smiled.
My parents had their cute moment and this was one of them, reminiscing about their college days. Their adventures at Hillman is exactly why I chose this school and hopefully, it'll end like my parents.
"Dj," my mother said.
"Can I go in the car? I don't know why I had to come, I'm missing out on Trey's birthday party, "Dj continued.
"Stop it with the attitude or I'll take away your phone for a month," my mother said.
"Come on man, your sister is going to college. Now it's going to be just you and us, stop stressing your momma" dad said saving the day.
"Ooh lashing out cause you already miss your big sis, don't worry you can video chat me anytime" I teased Dj.
"Ughh nobody is going to miss you, I've always wanted to be an only child" he clapped back.
"Ok, you two enough of this," dad said hitting Dj behind the head.
"Did you get everything out the car?"
"Yes, dad," I said.
"Do you need us to give you a tour?"
"Umm, I'm good from the first 3 tours mom," I said.
"Come one now Whit, we gotta let her go".
"It's all happening too soon, I don't think I'm ready Dwayne," she said and buried her face in his chest.
My mother is such a drama queen but I love that about her.
"We all know this day was coming Whitley, we'll come to visit often".
"Hopefully without me," Dj whispered.
Really, I looked at him.
"What" he whispered.
Ya mom, we can also video chat whenever" I said.
"Can I at least meet your roommates? If you're lucky you'll get somebody like aunty Kim" she said.
"They won't be here until later in the week, sorry mom".
"Fine, I'll let you settle in. If you need anything, like a plane ticket back home, you know who to call."
I giggled, I highly doubt I would be asking for a plane ticket back home anytime soon. Hillman was everything I wanted, the school was perfect and I can't wait to finally get to do me without my parents.
"Alright then sweetheart, you heard your mother. You're in good hands at Hillman, just don't forget to call us sometimes and visit during the holidays."
"I won't dad," I said and gave him a big hug.
"It's going to be alright, mom," I said giving her a hug also.
"Come on now Dj, give me a hug," I said and he reluctantly gave me one.
"Alright then Mariana, we love you and we're proud of you," dad said before leaving with mom and Dj.
This is it, my first official day as a Hillman student.
