Chapter 18, Grumpy Boy
Hand in hand, Noah and I make our way down the stairs. Only to be met with a rather worried-looking Sienna.
"Where have you been? I've been looking everywhere for you." she says to me.
I let go of Noah's hand trying to play it off like nothing happened between us.
He seems to catch on to what I'm trying to do because he backs away from me, giving Sienna and I space to have a more private conversation. "We had to go do that stupid 15 minute dare."
"Last time I checked he wasn't playing, and I've been looking for you for over 30 minutes. What's going on here?" Sienna asks and I feel the heat rising to my cheeks.
"He just decided to play for the last round and we got paired together. But nothing happened, I promise." I lie.
Sienna gives me a suspicious look, and I know she's not buying it. But luckily, she lets it go.
"Whatever," she says changing the subject, "look I'm really tired, and it's pretty late, can you please take me home?"
"Sure thing, can you go wait for me in the car though? I want to say goodbye to Tyler."
"Okay, but don't take too long, unless you want me to fall asleep and drool on your car seat." She replies heading toward the front door.
"I'll be right there!" I shout after her.
"You're leaving?" Noah asks from behind me and I turn around.
"Yeah, I'm taking Sienna home." I reply.
"Oh, okay. But before you leave, can I ask you something?"
"Sure, what is it?"
He leans closer and asks in a deep tone, "Can I get one last kiss?"
I let out a giggle.
"What's so funny?" Noah asks. Way to ruin the moment Amber.
"I'm sorry I didn't mean to laugh, it's just, that was the cheesiest thing ever." I say, still giggling a little.
He fakes being offended for a second, but drops his act almost immediately.
"I was going for sweet, but I'll take what I can get." He smirks and cups my face, leaning down and planting a soft kiss on my lips.
"Have a good night Amber." He says smiling and giving me one last look before he walks away from me.
I feel myself melting into a puddle on the floor. What is this guy doing to me?
I go to the backyard to find Tyler. I spot him standing alone in the corner of the house smoking a cigarette.
"Hey Ty, I was just leaving, I came to say goodbye."
I know he heard me, but he doesn't look at me.
What's up with him?
"Well I had a lot of fun, but I have to go." I try again.
"You sure did." He replies, still not facing me.
"Is something wrong Ty?"
"No, nothing," he finally turns to me "Just go, Sienna is probably waiting for you."
I know something is bothering him, but I also know him well enough to get that I shouldn't push him.
"Okay, I'll see you tomorrow." I say and wait for him to reply, but he looks away and doesn't respond.
I take that as my cue to leave.
The next day I wake up at noon, but it's saturday, so I don't feel that guilty about it.
I check my phone to see if I have any messages from Tyler. He acted very weird last night, but its normal for him to get moody like that sometimes. I just want to know if he's okay.
He hasn't texted me, so I decide to text him instead of waiting for his message.
Are we still on for today?
A couple of minutes go by, and I know he won't be responding anytime soon, so I decide to get ready anyway and go see him.
I know exactly what will cheer him up.
I make my way to the bathroom to take a shower.
As the warm water hits me and I relax, the memories from last night start flashing in my mind and I feel my heart fluttering.
That worries me. I don't want to catch feelings too fast. I know guys like Noah, the're charming and They're smooth talkers. They usually say what you want to hear to get you to do what they want.
I want to trust him, but past experiences have taught me that I can't let him in so easily. I'll just end up getting hurt.
He is a player after all, and a self proclaimed one might I add. So I don't really believe he will change for me. For all I know, he could be telling every girl he hooks up with that 'they're not just any other girl'.
After I'm done showering I blowdry my hair and put on a little make up. For my outfit I choose a floral, button up top, a pair of denim jeans, and white sneakers.
I grab my keys and make my way down the stairs.
"I'm going over to Tyler's!" I shout so that my mom can hear me.
"I would be worried if you weren't!" she replies, making me laugh.
My mom knows how inseparable Tyler and I are. She loves him like a son, the same way Tyler's mom loves me.
I get into my car and make my way to the store to pick up Tyler's favourites, before heading to his house.
I park in his driveway and go knock on the front door.
Tyler opens up, with his messy blonde hair flipping all over the place, wearing a black T-shirt and matching joggers.
He doesn't say a word, and I feel a weird tension growing between us.
"Can I come in?" I ask holding up 'Die hard' on one hand, and a cookie dough ice cream on the other.
He lets out a sigh, "You know me too well Rhodes." he says holding the door open.
I hug him tightly, snuggling into his chest, and thankfully, he hugs me back. His embrace feels warm and familiar, and he smells like clean laundry.
We stay like this for a moment, before we pull away from each other and I speak up.
"Let's go, we have a Die Hard marathon to get to."
