Chapter 1

Amelia POV

Chapter 1

That very afternoon I was working on a new project for the Rose hill Magazine. Nathan Blackwell my boss told me to work on the design part of the magazine. I’ve done it many times before but he came in and just dumped a folder on my desk. The look he given me was to say get it done and I had no say in the matter. I managed to mutter a thank you just before he left then I got started working on the design.

It wasn’t always like this. Nathan was a nice guy but it all turned around when I rejected his offer to go out on a date with him. He is cute, but I don’t like him like that. I would have considered being friends, though I don’t think that will ever happen.

Letting out a breath I realized that I had been day dreaming. Come on Amelia get yourself together, stop thinking about it. Picking up the pen again I was about to put my hand to the page but I was interrupted with the clatter of my office door slam into the wall behind it.

Nathan came in with long quick strides and slammed the palms of his hands on the top of my desk. Have I done anything wrong? Apparently not because he looked like he needed something and urgently.

“Amelia, I need to do something for me” Nathan started to tap his fingers on the hard wood of my desk impatiently.

“Yes sir, what would you like me to do?” I asked, mainly because I wanted to ask what I would get out of this whole urgency that is bothering him and it’s starting to bother me too.

“I need you to head down to Sterling Street and go to the Black Parlor. I want you to pick up somethings that are very fragile to me. When you get back you will be promoted at the frontal page designer of the magazine and that comes also with a major pay rise”.

After Nathan finished all that the things that I only heard from the babbling was pay rise and promotion. Both sounds pretty good but why does he want me to get it. Why not his secretary?

“Sir, why do you want me to get it? Rose is your secretary I’m just another magazine designer” and there goes the narrowing of the eyes. Now I’m in trouble for asking a stupid little question.

“Amelia, please. I need you to do this for me, I would gladly appreciate it” clearly avoiding the question he held his right hand out instead. I took his hand in mine and we made the deal. Truth be told he looked pleased that I was doing this for him. And I was pleased that I would be getting more money.

“Before you go sir, when would you like me to leave and collect this item for you?” I stood up behind my desk making the chair screech across the floor boards.

“This afternoon would be great and when you get there, make sure you say ‘I was sent from Blackwell’. That should get you inside. I hope you don’t disappoint me Amelia” that was it and he took his leave.

I was over the moon with what I would be getting after I pick up this package. I wonder why it is so special to him that I needed to be picked to get it. He thinks of me as the enemy, so why does he come and ask me to get something that is very important to him.

Oh well, I said I would through the handshake and I had to leave sometime round this afternoon. Looking up at the clock it was 2:45pm, great I still have time.

This time I didn’t make the mistake of dragging my chair across the floor. I sat back down to focus on the design that was there but I couldn’t think of anything, not even a squiggle of something. My mind was thinking too much about this afternoon, like I made the worst choice and it was constantly repeating over and over.

Maybe, it was because I asked the question about Rose and why she wasn’t the one doing his errands. It was weird to think about because he avoided the topic completely. Never mind though, I will be getting more than enough when I bring that package back.
